When my daughter was in preschool she loved to cut out pictures from a magazine, use safety scissors of course. Then glue them on a peice of paper to make a picture.
References :
I babysit two girls of the same age that you do,
two crafts that they seemed to like a lot were:
1. I brought a whole bunch of sisters over to their house, I picked stuff they like for example: flowers, hearts, barbie etc etc and gave them paper and they made pictures with the stickers. The 5 year old actually got quite creative, I was rather impressed
2. I found an old shrinky dink book and it had some paper in it so I let them do shrinky dinks which they seemed to like a lot especially watching the shrinky dinks shrink (just be careful thatthey don't burn themselves)

They also never get tired of painting, using stamps, collages with foam letters and animals etc etc... what about molding their hands and/or feet into clay?
References :
My own experience

How about making sock puppets? They are pretty easy and you can do it with glue and fabric paints. Or, how about making Christmas cards to mail to soldiers over in Iraq? I used to make cards for Valentines day for the soldiers and it was a lot of fun.
References :
I know this answer comes a little late, and I know it seems a bit generic... but hand made cards have to be the best. Everyone loves the opportunity to be artistic weather in picture or word and express themselves... and everyone feels special when they get a hand made card. I'm not sure what you ended up doing, but in the future consider cards. God bless.
References :
I love making salt dough objects with my children (aged 2 & 3). http://www.multihobbies.com/saltdough/

Nice and squishy for the youngest who likes to measure out and mix. My eldest is now more into making models and painting.
References :
Hand made cards. They can add a note that says someone is thinking of them (or praying for them.)
Most people like music. Have them sing a couple songs for the group.
