Could you use a small drill to drill holes in the can in a pattern the child has chosen (obviously don't get the child to do this) and then put a candle in the tin to make an outdoor lantern?
References :
join all of them together side by side to make a wine rack.

join the little scoops around the rim making them the perfect thing for hanging say necklaces on or something like that
and on the inside someone could put their hair brushes combs etc.

get busted ballons or something similar and cover the top makeing then into little drum kits for children.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

oh and the little scoops join them together in a cirlce making a little xmas decoration or ornament for hanging.
References :
oh wow how fun. Lets see. the kids could use the scoops as shovels and let them put potting soil in a decorated can to plant something in them for their family. use could use a decorated can to keep the classroom organized. like on for colors and markers or glue sticks. you could also give each kid one to save coins to donate to charity. or decorated can for the kids with goodies for like holiday parties.
References :
Well I can't think of what to do with those scoops. But when I was in elementary school. We had did a project with an old food can. We made it into a pencil/pen cup. Glued elbow macaroni to the pan, then the teacher spray painted it. I think my mom still has the one I made. That is really the only craft I can think of.
